Leading Beyond Bias

Mitigating Stereotype Threat in the Workplace

Understanding diversity dynamics at play in organizations is critical to knowing whether they are holding you and your team down. This course will examine how the fear of confirming negative stereotypes can impact employee performance, engagement, and well-being.

Participants will explore the psychological mechanisms behind stereotype threat, its effects on decision-making, and how it contributes to workplace inequities. We will highlight the ways in which stereotype threat affects individuals across different identities, from gender and race to age and professional background.

By increasing awareness of these dynamics, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how workplace culture, policies, and interactions can either mitigate or exacerbate stereotype threat.

Through peer-to-peer discussions and interactive exercises, participants will explore ways to shift workplace norms, promote equitable opportunities, and implement inclusive leadership practices for reducing stereotype threat in their own teams and organizations.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical tools to recognize, address, and counteract stereotype threat, helping to cultivate a workplace where everyone can contribute their best work without fear of bias or self-doubt, ultimately leading to stronger teams and more innovative, high-performing organizations.
