Pfizer Corporation, a global biopharmaceutical company, sought to enhance the effectiveness of geographically dispersed virtual development teams.
Challenge
Co-developed a Healthcheck team self-assessment tool with management to empower matrix teams working virtually to use team members’ confidential feedback for continuous process improvement. Provided training in use of tool; analyzed data and reported findings to each team to guide and facilitate leadership and team development.
Provided individual and dyad coaching to co-leaders of interdisciplinary teams. Conducted 360-degree style assessment for each co-leader and co-interpreted the results with the individual. Provided team coaching to strengthen communication, managerial, and influence skills.
Solution
Biosimilars management and teams administer an annual self-assessment survey to diagnose and fine-tune teamwork and shared performance criteria, using a “psychologically safe” methodology for identifying and addressing identified issues for attention and growth.
They increased the performance and efficiency of geographically dispersed, interdisciplinary work groups through greater awareness of ways to leverage different leadership styles, enhancing strategic thinking, and strengthening communication processes.
