National Assembly on School-Based Health Care
Strengthening Strategy and Governance for a National Advocacy Network
As a national advocacy organization championing school-based health care through legislative education and community capacity-building, the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC) sought to evaluate and strengthen its organizational effectiveness. Facing evolving national priorities and increasing demand for coordination across state-level affiliates, the organization needed to align its leadership structures with long-term strategic goals, improve governance, and formalize its national network for greater advocacy impact.
Challenge
Cora Group led a comprehensive organizational assessment and strategic planning initiative designed to equip NASBHC with the leadership clarity, governance structure, and stakeholder engagement needed to scale its impact.
Key components of our engagement included:
Executive advisement and coaching for the leadership team and Board
Strategic planning retreat design and facilitation to align stakeholders on future direction
A Board-led evaluation process supported by Cora Group, leveraging assessment data to drive thoughtful, evidence-based decision-making
Governance consultation to clarify leadership roles, policies, and procedures for long-term effectiveness
Our approach emphasized inclusive leadership, data-informed strategy, and active Board participation to embed a culture of evaluation and continuous improvement.
Solution
The engagement resulted in stronger governance, strategic clarity, and a national framework for amplified advocacy efforts.
Key outcomes included:
Refined leadership and governance structures aligned with mission and long-term objectives
Increased Board and executive alignment through a shared understanding of organizational priorities and performance metrics
Formalization of a national network of state-level school-based healthcare associations, enabling broader coalition building and unified advocacy
Enhanced stakeholder engagement in strategic evaluation, laying the groundwork for future data-informed planning and policy influence
Through this work, NASBHC expanded its capacity to lead at the national level, bolstering its ability to shape policy, strengthen local efforts, and advance equitable access to school-based health services across the country.
